How many times are we like the children of Israel in the wilderness (always complaining and murmuring) despite the previous mighty works the Lord had done before (Exodus 14:19-31)? How many times do we lack faith and trust in Him despite what He has done in our lives in the past. You just don’t expect a people that witness the parting of the sea to complain over the absence of water (Exodus 17). But guess what, they did. And so did they for every other thing they lacked or didn’t fully understand.
It’s easy to read the story about the children of Israel in the wilderness and constantly get annoyed or irritated by their actions. But if we sincerely take a closer look at our lives, we find that sometimes we have behaved in like manner.
We get to a junction of our lives where we experience a bit of opposition and fall back to complaining or probably blaming God for allowing those things happen. Sometimes we forget what He recently did because a “new” problem is right in front of us so what’s more important than solving that. This kind of attitude does not get us anywhere, not in getting the problem solved or even in our walk with God.
Complaining and murmuring blinds you from seeing the ability of God to help you in that situation. It magnifies the problem beyond what it is and gradually sap faith out of you.
Now what can you do instead you may ask
Sometimes we already find ourselves murmuring and complaining in our heart before we snap back to the consciousness that it’s wrong. Well here’s what you should do instead. Do what Moses did. Moses was the one God set to lead the people out of Egypt and into the promise land. Moses did not join the Israelites in distress to murmur against God despite the pressure being so much on him. What did he do? He went back to God, He always did. He communicated the people’s situation and distress to God and God always had a solution for them. Rather than complaining, talk to God about it. The answer He has may not be what you expect or want at the moment, but there’s always an answer that would give you peace if you’re willing to stay put with it.
